All kids are cute, am I right? Well some kids just love to be themselves in front of the camera and J was totally about showing me who he was :) He was tons of fun!

The 50mm has arrived!!

This lens is amazing and don't let anyone tell you any different. I decided to go the cheaper route and buy the f/1.8 for now and I have to tell you, it's exeeded all my expectations thus far. I love how I can use a mid range f stop and get an incredible photo but block out most of the background that has always taken away from my photos.

But then I love how I can turn up the dramaticness with showing the depth of field in this one. Mikayla isn't as distracting in this one, even though she's about 6 inches behind the cake.

Lighting

It's still amazing to me what a difference lighting can make. The first picture was taken with my 18-55 lens at 3.5 aperture on a sunny day. The natural light helps give clearly defined lines to the 'subject'.




However, on a cloudy day, this picture was taken with the same lens at the same aperture, however, it required a flash to give it an ISO of 100. I do like the difined line of the bubble, but the harsh shadow of Dan's hand gives away that a flash was used.


The good news? I now have a 50mm f/1.8 to hopefully get better indoor shots :)

Summer is near...

So it's not mystery that the natural light in Minnesota is not favorable for about six months of the year. Until I get a 50mm lens, this will continue to be a challenge. so this was the closest I could get. I just love how every spring I see her freckles start to show, it's another sign that summer is almost here and bringing out the freckled face princess :)
