Lighting

It's still amazing to me what a difference lighting can make. The first picture was taken with my 18-55 lens at 3.5 aperture on a sunny day. The natural light helps give clearly defined lines to the 'subject'.

However, on a cloudy day, this picture was taken with the same lens at the same aperture, however, it required a flash to give it an ISO of 100. I do like the difined line of the bubble, but the harsh shadow of Dan's hand gives away that a flash was used.

The good news? I now have a 50mm f/1.8 to hopefully get better indoor shots :)

Summer is near...

So it's not mystery that the natural light in Minnesota is not favorable for about six months of the year. Until I get a 50mm lens, this will continue to be a challenge. so this was the closest I could get. I just love how every spring I see her freckles start to show, it's another sign that summer is almost here and bringing out the freckled face princess :)

Baby E

A super cute little girl who is going through some stanger anexiety, but she seemed to like me today :)

Playing with Editing

I have to make a book for Camryn so she knows what the hospital proceedure can be like with shunt revisions. This is probably going to be the cover as I would like her to see that she can be who she is at any moment in time and still be a kid at Children's :)

Little to choose from..

While at the hospital this week there was little to choose from to photograph that didn't have flourecent lighting and since I don't have a detachable flash with bouncer for my camera yet, this is the biggest challenge I face. Other than the fact that I need a 50mm lens :)

This was the best I could do with the view from our room, linear again.

First try at shutter speed...

I love this photo. Mikayla's hair is in the wind, her hands aren't blurry, and I can make out her face! I am still thrilled with the novelty of this new camera.

Shutter Speed 1000, f/3.5, and ISO 100.

This is definately my favorite part about this time of year, better action shots with more natural light :)

Welcome!

I've recently aquired a Nikon D80 to satisfy my natural love of photography. I currently use a 18-55 and 55-200 lens. I am documenting my learning process and portfolio building progress here. I will also be adding the settings used on these lenses and the conditions they were taken in to help other newbies with an easy way to achive the photos they love. I hope this journey is as fun for you as it is for me :)
